Silvermine History & Dinner too!

Something unusual has been happening at the Silvermine Tavern. Something historical. It’s the Silvermine History Dinners.

Several times a year, at 6:30 on the third or fourth Wednesday of the month, a speaker presents a talk about something from Silvermine’s interesting past. Some of the past topics have included

  • the untold story behind Robert Flaherty’s Nanook of the North (the first documentary);

  • the history of Silvermine’s cemeteries;

  • the interesting life story of Bliss Carman, a Canadian poet who lived here at the turn of the century;

  • Bernard Baruch’s connection to Silvermine;

  • and the sad story of Adeline Hawkes, an orphan living in the Silvermine mills in the 1890s.

Check this SCA web-site or our SCA newsletter for upcoming history dinners. Make reservations with the Silvermine Tavern, 847-4558. If you have any questions, contact Jerry Gleason.
