“NIGHT AT THE OPERA”

The Silvermine History Dinners are back—juicy bits and all!

Did you know that some of the most important opera singers in America lived in Silvermine? Come to a special Silvermine History Dinner being held at a new and beautiful location, the Silvermine Golf Club, to hear about —and to hear—the opera stars of Silvermine!

The “Night at the Opera” begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar, the presentation is at 7:00 and is accompanied by a family-style dinner. The cost is $29 and includes a sumptuous 4 course meal with 3 hearty main entrees and gratuity. Reservations are required and can be made, using the link to your left, by credit card or PayPal. Alternatively a check can be sent to Eleanor Sasso at the address below. We MUST receive your reservation no later than March 18th!

This event is open to SCA members in good standing and their guests living outside of Silvermine... only. Seating is limited to the first 75 people that respond; judging from past experience, these dinners fill up quickly as Jerry Gleason guides us into the Silvermine of our ancestors with humor and pluck!!

Join the Silvermine Community Association on line, at the Silvermine Market, or at the door when you come to the History Dinner.

More About the History Dinners:

Several times a year, at 6:30 on the third or fourth Wednesday of the month, a speaker presents a talk about something from Silvermine’s interesting past. Some of the past topics have included

  • the untold story behind Robert Flaherty’s Nanook of the North (the first documentary);

  • the history of Silvermine’s cemeteries;

  • the interesting life story of Bliss Carman, a Canadian poet who lived here at the turn of the century;

  • Bernard Baruch’s connection to Silvermine;

  • and the sad story of Adeline Hawkes, an orphan living in the Silvermine mills in the 1890s.

Check this SCA web-site or our SCA newsletter for upcoming history dinners. Make reservations. If you have any questions, contact Eleanor Sasso
