Silvermine Cartoonist,
Mary Anne Case.
Something happened to Mary Anne Case on Christmas
Eve, 1993. Something that would change her life. The New
Canaan Advertiser published
a cartoon she had drawn—
and readers loved it! It was
the first faint glimmer of what
was to be Mary Ann’s new career
as a cartoonist and illustrator.
After years spent as an interior
designer and commercial
space planner, Mary Anne
formally changed her career
in 1998. She became a fulltime
cartoonist and illustrator.
In the mid-nineties she drew
freelance editorial cartoons
for the New Canaan Advertiser,
as well as creating mailers,
and ads for local businesses.
The New York Times, in its
“Travel Section,” published
an account of her travels in
Italy, accompanied by drawings
from her sketchbook. More recently, Mary Anne Case spent a year
as editorial cartoonist for the Hartford Business Journal
and, two years ago, “Memory
Lane,” a daily panel cartoon,
appeared briefly in
the Norwalk Hour.
These days Mary Anne
works on a computer. She
feels that this gives her
more freedom to save an
image at a specific point,
make a copy, and then
make changes or enhancements
without losing the
original work. She is also
getting into animation (see
a sample at the upcoming
“Artists in Residence Art
Show”). There’s one more
goal Mary Anne has set for
herself—to have a syndicated
comic strip. So keep
an eye out for her in the
funnies. Silvermine Cartoonist
