Wanting to live in historic old Silvermine
is usually driven by either a love of history or a need to
live amongst charm. It is a neighborhood where one can close
their eyes on a cold wintery day and see a sleigh pulled by
broad shouldered horses as they trod down Comstock Hill. The
snow sticking to heavy furred legs of the horses as they
breathe out the cold spirit of the morning air can only be
imagined by those who do dream…and have time to dream.
People who find that their imagination
comforts their soul, who spend a sufficient amount of time
dreaming of charming scenes, and who find that creating is a
needed fulfillment are right here in Silvermine. They are
the Silvermine Artists in Residence. This group is comprised
solely of residents of the Silvermine area and provides a
forum through which the area’s artists can meet, exchange
ideas, and form community ties.
As Borglum did, these artists derive much of
their imagination and creative power from this classic
historic neighborhood. They are unique from other artist
groups because they don’t put their work on display to be
judged, as most associations and artists will do. Instead,
they display their work for the viewers’ enjoyment.
Many art associations and organizations join
together for shows to judge work or jury it. A juried show
is one where the art work is reviewed and then accepted into
the show or rejected. Some art shows accept all works and
then judge awards from there. As many of you know who are
creators and/or artists, the judging or jurying is one
person’s opinion on whether art work is accepted or should
take third, second or first place.
The Silvermine Artists in Residence enjoy
the pleasure of their friends, neighbors, and families
coming out to see their work. Their friends, families, and
neighbors are the judges. And perhaps if a neighbor whispers
to the other that the painting reminds them of a romantic
get away or a childhood memory then the judging has been
complete. That piece is awarded first place by way of that
neighbor.
So look for a scene that reminds you of
history, perhaps horses trodding through the snow on
Comstock Hill or fall colors clothing the Silvermine
greenery , or a piece that provokes a pleasant memory. You
are the judge and jury at the Artists in Residence Show. |
